Test new shoes indoors on a clean, carpeted surface so the soles stay unmarked. Try them later in the day, when feet are naturally a little larger, and wear the socks you plan to use with them. Walk around for a few minutes, check for heel slip, pressure across the widest part of your foot and about a thumb's width of space beyond your longest toe. If something feels off, stop there. Keep the packaging
